VADINI is the abbreviation of Van Dijk Nickerie
The Van Dijk brothers are the pioneers in respect of mechanical rice cultivation.
In the thirties they started with tests.
After World War II this development was accelarated by the construction of the Prins Bernard polder and Wageningen.
Varieties where developed with a shorter growing season, as a result of which it was possible to harvest twice a year.

In mechanical rice cultivation tractors, combines and even airplanes are used

There are many rice processing enterprises in Nickerie

Ricefields, ricefields & ricefields; therefore Nickerie rises out of rice

Yet another sign of the rice industry

Pumping-station at Clarapolder
The Multi purpose Corantijn kanaal Project (MCP) is meant to regularly provide enough water to the existing polders, as well as to enable the construction of new polders.
Because of this the rice production of Nickerie can be further increased.
A pumping engine near Wakay sees to it that water from the Corantijn river is led to the cultivation area, through the 66 km long Corantijn canal.
